Keep them in mind to stay healthy and hygiene
I have been a gym member for years and have seen many common mistakes that members/trainers are not aware of which can affect their exercise routines. I have picked a few of the mistakes that I think members/trainers can steer clear of and avoid bringing bacteria home and stay fit(inside and out)!
Change out of your sweaty gym clothes
You may think it’s handy to keep your gym clothes on post-workout but this builds the perfect environment for germs and fungus that can cause skin infections and acne. If you are in rush, bring a set of fresh underwear and clothes and put your sweaty gym clothes in a plastic bag, which will minimize any germs spreading into your bag.
Don’t leave your hair down during exercise
First of all your hair/fringe will be in your way during exercise so for that reason alone, I always ask my clients to tie their hair back. Also you probably don’t want to touch your face after you’ve been placing your hands on the equipment that other members have been touching with their sweaty hands. Most gyms carry disinfectant wipes or spray, so make use of them before you reuse the equipment.
Unfold your yoga mat
If you practice yoga and own your own mat, remember to first wipe off the sweat then roll it out to let it air out once you’re home. It’s best to wipe it with diluted alcohol if available. If you are using a gym mat, wipe it before use and be considerate and let it air after you have used it.
Skipping the cool down
Skipping your cool-down is a BIG mistake. Cool down with static stretching or a Power Plate passive massage after your workout to help flush out the waste products which ease your post-workout muscles soreness. It is also important in that it helps bring your blood pressure and body temperature back to it’s normal state slowly to avoid dizziness.
Treat yourself with q high-calorie meal
You should be replenishing your body with good quality of protein and carbohydrates post-workout within 90 minutes with something such as lean white meat or white fish with vegetables, sweet potatoes, or brown rice. A handy protein shake is also a good and fast option. Eating fatty food and low quality refined carbs can slow down your digestion, and prevent your body from absorbing all the nutrients from quality protein and glycogen needed post-workout.
