When I introduce Power Plate to my clients, almost 80% have never heard of it. The other 20% have heard about it, but very few have experienced training with it. So what is Power Plate?
How does it work?
The Power Plate utilizes acceleration training. This means that vibrations radiating from the machine force your body to perform reflexive muscle actions to regain its stability, up to 50 times per second. You will find that you get tired much faster when you perform your exercises on the Power Plate, which is exactly why this type of training is perfect for those who are short on time but want maximum results.
The Science
Power Plate works with the principle of the law of motion by Sir Isaac Newton.
Force = mass x acceleration
Traditionally, we improve functional force by applying more mass (such as weight machines or dumbbells) to the body. Power Plate is instead using acceleration to improve functional force, which minimizes high stress, high impact and high load to our body while still giving you the force that is needed for your muscles to get tired.
My opinion
A lot of people think Power Plate is just a gimmick and I think instead of listening to other’s opinion, you should experience it, and then you can judge for yourself. Personally, I have gained so much benefit out of the Power Plate, especially since I am training so frequently and I get sore and tight quite often. I use Power Plate a lot to help to increase my range of motion and to recover faster from training as well as reduce pain when it’s needed. Besides that, I use Power Plate for my favorite 20 min workout during my short lunch breaks!
